(Fake) Election 2012 musical is now cast Is it too soon for "Election 2012: The Musical"? Apparently not for the overeager editors of Theater mania.com, who went so far as to cast this imaginary musical with Brian Stokes Mitchell (Barack Obama), Audra McDonald (Michelle Obama), Marc Kudisch (Mitt Romney), Christine Ebersole (Ann Romney and/or Jill Biden), Barry Bostwick (Bill Clinton), Cherry Jones (Hillary Clinton), John Larroquette (Joe Biden) and Austin Pendleton (Ron Paul). You know, I am still waiting to receive an invite to review the show. 
 Jukebox musical 'Clueless' on track A few weeks ago, I wrote an article about movies with the potential to make great stage musicals. Prominently featured on that list was "Clueless," which has been eyed by producers for a long time. Last week, Amy Heckerling, who directed the film, confirmed to Vulture.com that she is now working with Kristin Hanggi, who staged "Rock of Ages," to turn "Clueless" into a similar jukebox musical full of period hits. In other words, look for "Clueless" to be the 1990s version of "Rock of Ages." 
 Lansbury expected for 'Garden' Angela Lansbury, who has graced Broadway in recent seasons with very spirited performances in "A Little Night Music" and "Blithe Spirit," is expected to return next fall in a revival of Enid Bagnold's "The Chalk Garden," an oddball 1956 comedy about the complicated relationship between a rich old woman and her granddaughter. 
 Dramatists Guild helps out theaters The Dramatists Guild, responding to the serious plight of downtown theater companies affected by last week's storm, is donating more than $40,000 in emergency grants to numerous nonprofit theaters including the Cherry Lane Theatre, Flea Theater, Culture Project, Red Bull Theater and Vineyard Theatre. 
 TKTS B'klyn open, Seaport still closed While the TKTS Booth in downtown Brooklyn reopened this week, don't look for the South Street Seaport location to come back anytime soon, after having suffered considerable physical damage last week. 
 MacFarlane bows out of Carnegie gig When it was announced a few weeks ago that Seth MacFarlane would be hosting this year's Oscar telecast, I assumed that meant he'd need to pull out of headlining the March 8 concert "Come Fly With Me: The Songs of Sammy Cahn" with the New York Pops at Carnegie Hall. This week it was finally confirmed that MacFarlane has dropped out due to a "scheduling conflict." His replacement: Ryan Silverman, whom I haven't seen in anything in four years. At least "Smash" co-star Megan Hilty is still set to take part in the concert.
