‘Fun Home’ extends run for fourth time, Socha exits cast The hit Off-Broadway musical “Fun Home” has extended its run at the Public Theater for the fourth time to Jan. 12. But in a strange turn of events, Alexandra Socha, who scored much praise from critics for her performance as Medium Alison, has left the show due to unspecific personal reasons and been replaced by understudy Emily Skeggs. However, it appears that Socha took part in the recording of the show's cast album. Tyne Daly to star in ‘Mothers and Sons’ on Broadway Terrence McNally, whose new play “And Away We Go” just opened Off-Broadway at the Pearl Theatre Company, will also be represented on Broadway this season with a new work. “Mothers and Sons,” which stars Tyne Daly as a mother paying a visit to her late son’s lover, will play the Golden Theatre, with previews starting in February. The play received its world premiere over the summer at the Bucks County Playhouse. Leading Broadway publicist calls it quits In a move that took the theater industry by complete surprise, Michael Hartman, founder of The Hartman Group, one of Broadway’s two biggest public relations firms, announced Monday that the office will shut down next month and that he is moving to Texas to become CEO of Amy’s Ice Cream. Their office currently represents “Wicked,” “700 Sundays” and “Rocky” among other shows. ‘Rascals’ return to Broadway is called off The encore Broadway engagement of “The Rascals: Once Upon a Dream,” a rock concert with narration and trippy LED screen graphics that played a short run over the summer and was set to play the Marquis Theatre from Dec. 14-Jan. 5, has been canceled allegedly due to scheduling conflicts with Steve Van Zandt, the show’s director, writer and producer. ‘Pippin’ revival recoups its investment costs The hit Broadway revival of “Pippin,” which won multiple Tony Awards including Best Musical Revival, Best Actress and Best Director, officially recouped its capitalization costs of $8.5 million on Sunday. Last week, the show grossed just over $1 million over eight performances at the Music Box Theatre, which is especially impressive given the fact that it has less than 1,000 seats. ‘Kinky Boots’ Thanksgiving performance causes Twitter uproar The Tony-winning musical “Kinky Boots” unexpectedly led to an uproar on Twitter following its performance on the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, with many television viewers up in arms over the show’s flashy content and drag performers. “I'm so proud that the cast of 'Kinky Boots' brought their message of tolerance and acceptance to America's parade,” Harvey Fierstein, who wrote the show's book, told Playbill.com. ‘Macbeth’ cancelled mid-performance due to technical problems The Wednesday, November 27 evening performance of “Macbeth” at Lincoln Center Theater was abruptly paused and then canceled altogether due to technical difficulties.
