Bin Laden eyed 9/11 attack on 10th anniversary: report

Osama bin Laden was plotting an attack in the U.S. on the 10th anniversary of 9/11, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Bin Laden and his operations chief, Attiyah Abd al-Rahman, were putting together a team to attack the U.S., according to documents seized by Navy Seals in the May raid that killed bin Laden, officials told the newspaper.

Officials said the terrorists’ plans didn’t get very far, though acting CIA Director Michael Morell reportedly told his staff earlier this month to make sure that neither that attack or any others could be carried out.

The al Qaeda leader’s plans to attack the U.S. were vague, and officials were uncertain if a team of militants was ever chosen or if a specific target or plan was decided upon.

Days after bin Laden was killed on May 2, officials said he was reportedly eyeing an attack on unspecified trains.
