Bloomberg: Bring the Emmys to New York City!

Mayor Michael Bloomberg is ready to roll out the red carpet for the Emmys.
Hizzoner suggested Monday that it’s time for the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences to ditch Hollywood and present its annual primetime telecast here.
“Given how many TV shows are now filmed in New York City and how well they did … maybe the Academy should think about hosting next year’s Emmys in the Big Apple,” Bloomberg said in a statement.
“ ’Glee’ and ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’ couldn’t resist coming to New York City this season – though I had to send Larry David back,” the mayor quipped, referring to his cameo on “Curb’s” season finale this month.
A record 23 primetime TV shows are being shot in the city for the fall season, with many filming in burgeoning studios along the Brooklyn waterfront. “The Good Wife” and “Boardwalk Empire” were among the honored dramas on Sunday’s Emmys broadcast that are filmed locally.
City officials say a 30% state tax credit lures productions here.
But Bloomberg shouldn’t get his hopes up. A spokeswoman for the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences said Monday the awards show has no plans on leaving Los Angeles.
