The NYPD Harbor Patrol and the FDNY pulled a dead man out of New York Harbor in Battery Park near the Staten Island Ferry Terminal yesterday about 7 a.m.
An autopsy is scheduled to be performed today. No additional information concerning the man was available.
It is difficult to estimate how long the man may have been in the water, said a police source, as bodies dumped in the water over the winter “tend to sit on the bottom of the river until the water heats up,” and surface during Spring as temperatures rise.
Thirty to 40 firefighters responded to the call of a man in the water and rescue divers from Squad 18 and Ladder 10 entered the water.
