Police charged the live-in boyfriend in the slaying of a 32-year-old disabled woman in Williamsburg.
Angelo Sanchez, 41, was charged Monday with second degree murder and child endangerment in the death of Melissa Torres.
After responding to a 911 call, cops found Torres unresponsive in the bathroom of her first floor apartment at 70 Clymer St. around 7:30 a.m. Sunday. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Published reports said Torres, who used a wheelchair, was found in her bathtub and that officials believed she had been suffocated or strangled.
Autopsy results were inconclusive, pending lab results.
Yolanda Peralta, 54, a resident of the building, noticed the window grates were removed from Torres' back window on Sunday. That grabbed her attention because Torres kept window guards installed for the protection of her young son, said Peralta. Neighbors, Peralta continued, told her that Torres and her live-in companion had an argument and she locked him out.
“They were always together: I never saw her without him," added Shawn Smith, 30, who stays at the building three days a week. Torres, her son and her boyfriend often passed time in a small playground at the back of the building,
“It's horrible. Just horrible," said Smith, adding, “they just looked like a typical family.”
