Broadway's 'Orphans' to close early

Plagued by drama since before it opened, Broadway's "Orphans" is slated to close six weeks early.

Producers announced May 6 that the show will play its final performance on Sunday, May 19 for a total of 27 previews and 37 regular performances at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre.

The show was originally scheduled to run until June 30. According to The New York Times, ticket sales have been "trending downward" and would likely continue to do so after May 19.

Alec Baldwin, Ben Foster and Tom Sturridge star in Lyle Kessler's play, directed by Daniel Sullivan. Foster replaced actor Shia LaBeouf after "creative differences" forced LaBeouf out of the production before its opening. LaBeouf then went on to tweet a series of private emails between himself and the director that took aim at Baldwin.

"Orphans" received two Tony noms: one for Sturridge and one for Best Revival of a Play.
