A 20-year-old Bronx man died in police custody Tuesday after being bashed in the head with a rock after he allegedly shot a gun at group of men in front of a housing project, the NYPD said.

Antonion Lyles, 20, died in the early morning at Jacobi Hospital after he was placed under arrest for firing a gun at the men in front of Edenwald Houses near East 222nd Street around 3 p.m. on Monday, according to police.

After shooting the gun Lyles was chased into the housing complex by the group of men, where he was assaulted with a rock, police said. Officials found a .32 caliber semi-automatic pistol at the scene.
