Bronx stations on 6 line to close for rehab Monday

Months of commuting aggravation for Pelham straphangers starts Monday, when the Elder Avenue and St. Lawrence Avenue stations will be shuttered until October for renovation work.

The stations, which are the last of five along the Bronx 6 line to undergo $89 million in rehabilitation work, will get new a public address system, lighting and canopies over stairs and platforms, among other improvements.

“It’s going to be a slight temporary inconvenience, but when they open they will brighter, newer, and better-looking stations,” said MTA spokesman Charles Seaton.

Riders can get free transfers to other stations on the Bx4, Bx4A and Bx27 buses. Free connections are available on Westchester Avenue at Simpson Street, Elder Avenue, St. Lawrence Avenue and White Plains Road.

At night, a free shuttle will run along the Bx4 route between the Parkchester and Simpson Street stations.
