Brooklyn has two of the 10 best new restaurants in the country: Bon Appetit
Brooklyn's food scene is one of the hottest in the country.
The borough snagged two of the top 10 spots in Bon Appetit's annual list of the best new restaurants in the country, with Blanca in Bushwick and Carroll Gardens' Battersby both near the top of the list.
Manhattan, however, was shut out of the top 10, though NoMad and Atera both were in the top 50. (The borough's most recent entry in the top 10 was in 2010 with Marea.)
Brooklyn's rise to prominence on the list is no surprise, as its restaurant scene over the past few years has exploded with originality and creativity, said Andrew Moesel, a spokesman for the New York City chapter of the New York State Restaurant Association.
"Manhattan has held the crown of elite dining for many years, but now all the culinary innovation and trends happening in Brooklyn are being recognized by the world," Moesel said.
Andrew Rigie, executive director of the New York City Hospitality Alliance, added that while Manhattan still "sits atop any list of the world's best restaurants," the outer boroughs are on the rise.
"Brooklyn has become a culinary powerhouse, not just in the city, but the entire world," he said. "And Queens had more Michelin-starred restaurants this year than it has in the past."
He added: "Some of those neighborhoods may not have reached the level of some in Manhattan, but that's not to say they won't."
