Brooklyn man charged for pretending to fire at Times Square cops

A Brooklyn man who pretended to point a gun at cops in Times Square on Saturday night -- leading to two bystanders to be accidentally shot by police -- was charged this morning.

Glenn Broadnax, 35, of 715 Gates Avenue in Bedford Stuyvesant, was charged with menacing, rioting, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and cocaine possession, police said.

According to police, Broadnax was "acting erratically, weaving in and out of traffic" and appeared to be purposely be trying to hit by cars at 42nd Street and 8th Avenue when he was apprehended by police around 9:35 p.m.

Ryan Magill, a witness who recorded the scene on his phone, said in an interview Sunday that he saw Broadnax twice try to get hit by a car.

“It looked like he was trying to commit suicide,” said Magill, a 30-year-old Hell’s Kitchen resident.

He said police tried to control Broadnax, but he kept running into traffic.

Then, Broadnax simulated shooting at cops by putting his hand in his pocket and then pulling it out and pointing at them.

The two cops, who weren't identified, fired on Broadmax, but missed and hit two women, ages 54 and 35. The two unidentified victims were in stable condition Sunday.

The older woman was shot in the right knee and taken to Bellevue Hospital, while the other woman was grazed on her buttocks. The two victims were in stable condition yesterday. Police Commissioner Ray Kelly reportedly visited the victims.

Broadnax was arrested after being stunned by Taser by an officer. He was taken to Bellevue Hospital where he was being treated as an emotionally disturbed person, a police spokeswoman said.
