A Brooklyn man accused of kidnapping his ex-girlfriend and torturing her for a month was indicted Wednesday on 18 criminal charges.
Anthony Matthews, 31, could face life in prison if he is convicted on attempted murder, kidnapping and other criminal counts, according to Brooklyn DA Charles Hynes.
Matthews took the 26-year-old woman to his father's Catskills home on June 29 and then to a Bedford-Stuyvesant apartment, where he kept her captive for a month, the DA said. During that time, he allegedly tortured her.
On July 30, Matthews dropped off the victim at his mother's house and she called 911.
The victim sustained several serious injuries, including spinal damage, a liver laceration, fractured ribs, a fractured nose, numerous burns, bruising and swelling on her face and body. She is still hospitalized.
