Brooklyn Yeshiva students booted from airplane

A group of about 100 students from Yeshiva of Flatbush in Brooklyn were ejected from a flight at LaGuardia Airport on Monday morning after allegedly refusing to turn off their electronic devices and take their seats.

The students were on an AirTran Airways flight from New York to Atlanta for their senior trip when staff on the flight said some in the group refused to sit down or turn off their mobile devices, according to Southwest Airlines, AirTran's parent company.

"The crew, led by the captain, asked several times that the passengers comply with regulations," a Southwest spokeswoman said.

Yeshiva of Flatbush executive director Rabbi Seth Linfield said in a statement that the school will do its own investigation into the incident. The group was eventually put on other flights on Monday.

"Preliminarily, it does not appear that the action taken by the flight crew was justified," Linfield said.
