Cablevision, Fox remain at odds over fees

Fans of “Glee” may end up being the latest victims in the showdown between News Corp. and Cablevision.

Talks between the two companies are scheduled to continue today after fizzling for a third consecutive day Monday — with both sides failing to agree on a fee to carry the FOX 5 and My 9 stations.

The two channels have been blacked out since 12:01 a.m. Saturday for some 3 million subscribers, forcing viewers to go without coverage of the New York Giants game as well as two baseball playoff games. “Glee,” among FOX’s most popular offerings, is to air tonight, but will not be shown to Cablevision customers without an agreement.

“When broadcasters like News Corp. remove their signals, they hurt viewers in an attempt to gain business leverage,” Cablevision spokesman Charles Schueler said in a statement Monday.

Cablevision said it is being asked to pay $150 million — up from $70 million — to carry the stations. News Corp. denied that figure yesterday and said in a statement that Cablevision must “quit punishing its own subscribers.”

Cablevision, which also owns amNewYork, wants to resolve the dispute through arbitration.
