Zimride

Zimride

There's a new car-share in town.

Zimride launched in New York and Washington, D.C. Wednesday, using social media to link up drivers looking for company on a road trip and passengers who want to avoid public transit and are willing to pitch in for gas. The service is already running in San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego, and Las Vegas.

Drivers post where they're heading and when they want to hit the road, and the website suggests a fair price passengers should contribute for a spare seat.

The site pulls info from your Facebook account -- including music preferences, interests and where you work -- to try to avoid an awkward trip.
