After being elevated this weekend in Rome, Cardinal Timothy M. Dolan will be back in New York on Tuesday and returning to work.

Dolan, who heads the Archdiocese of New York, was one of 20 archbishops to receive a red hat and gold ring from Pope Benedict XVI during a ceremony on Saturday.

"This hat is really for New York," Dolan told the Daily News after the ceremony. “I want to put it on the Empire State Building and the Statue of Liberty and the Brooklyn Bridge.”

About 1,000 of the 62-year-old religious leader’s family, friends and fans were on hand, including his mother, Shirley.

He will return to work Wednesday morning, handing out breakfasts at St. Francis Church on 31st Street before presiding over Ash Wednesday services at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, where thousands of New Yorkers are expected to attend.
