Cartoons live on stage? Just 'Scooby-Doo' it

Scooby-Doo and the gang are escaping the screens big and small and making their way to the stage.

"Scooby-Doo Live! Musical Mysteries" brings the four mystery solvers and their dog to the Beacon Theatre, where they'll sing, dance and figure out just who is committing crimes while dressed up like a monster of some sort.

"Our show is very similar to the cartoon," says Cody Collier, who plays Scooby. "All of your favorite 'Scooby-Doo' characters are here and we stay very true to all of the animated series' trademark actions."

So yes, Scooby will be noshing on some Scooby snacks, though don't be miffed if he doesn't share with the audience.

Collier does say that while the stage Scooby is consistent with the cartoon character, he does mix in "a fresh taste of theatricality for the live show."

And he does all that while wearing a giant, furry dog costume, which is not easy.

"Wearing the Scooby suit all day is definitely a very hot and a very physically taxing task," Collier says. "But as long as I drink lots of water and take care of my body, I'm able to adjust to it just fine. The rest of the cast and crew do an excellent job taking care of me and making sure I'm OK throughout the run of the show. They pamper me so well, sometimes I feel like I should be a Poodle instead of a Great Dane!"
