Former publishing exec Cathie Black starts as schools chancellor Monday with a five-school tour that will hit every borough, capping a six-week controversy over her appointment.

Black, 66, will begin at Brooklyn’s PS 262 with Mayor Michael Bloomberg, and finish with a meeting with parents in Staten Island.

The ex-Hearst chair cleared what may have been her final hurdle last week, when an Albany judge dismissed three lawsuits from parents seeking to block the waiver that let her bypass the required masters degree for the job. Black’s prior work experience was in publishing.

Noah Gotbaum, one of the parents who sued, said he and his suit’s 12 other petitioners will meet Tuesday to decide whether to appeal.

For us, this is a start, not an end, regardless of what we do,” he said. “Parents have found their voice, and we’ll no longer accept a constituency of one out-of-touch mayor.”

Lead attorney Norman Siegel added that if they appeal, it could take up to eight weeks for a decision.

Bloomberg, who surprised many when he appointed Black in November to succeed Joel Klein, praised the ruling and said Black “is ready to hit the ground running.”
