In the follow-up to her exquisite self-titled album released last year, singer-songwriter Marissa Nadler returns with a fiercely independent, confessional set marked by its hushed, incantatory feel. Produced once again by Brian McTear of Miner Street Studios, the new album enfolds many a gorgeous moment, the best tinged with a rich darkness, from "Apostle," with its windswept howl of a chorus, to "Christine," with its country gothic roots in the Dolly Parton classic "Jolene."
