Celebrating Diwali around the city

The five-day Indian festival of lights, Diwali kicks off on Friday, and several Indian restos are celebrating with specials. Here are our picks:

Curry Hill’s Copper Chimney (126 E. 28th St., 212-213-5742), which focuses on North Indian cooking, will servetraditional foods and sweet treats such as Gulab Jamun, “softballs” that are lightly fried and dipped in sugar syrup. In addition to candles, decoration and food galore, Copper Chimney will offer free mehndi painting from 5-8 p.m. and offer free appetizers with a drink. They’ll also offer an $8.95 lunch buffet with traditional Diwali desserts.

The Kati Roll Company (99 MacDougal St., 212-420-6517, 212-420-6497; 49 W. 39th St., 212-730-4280) is celebrating Diwali with an ongoing lottery for free kati rolls through Friday. All customers receive a lottery ticket with their order and winning numbers are announced twice every hour on Twitter.

Danny Meyer’s Tabla (11 Madison Ave., 212-889-0667), which is set to close at the end of this year, is offering a family-style dinner on Monday at 7 p.m. The dinner is $135 per person.

This Friday and Saturday, Pranna (79 Madison Ave., 212-696-5700) will feature a $35 per person menu that includes a choice of one small plate and one large plate per person and Naan with dipping sauces, three vegetable sides and kulfi and Indian sweets for the table.
