FREE films in Tompkins Square Park — ‘Romeo & Juliet’
Lay out under the stars and watch Shakespeare’s famous star-crossed lovers on the big screen in Baz Luhrmann’s modernized take on the theatrical classic. Free Films in Tompkins kicks off its weekly summer film series Thursday night with “Romeo + Juliet,” starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes. New Orleans-based folksy street performing band Sweet Street Symphony will open the evening half an hour before the sundown screening. Explore the connections between the two communities at this year’s Egg Rolls & Egg Creams Festival, complete with performances from the likes of the Peking Opera and klezmer music groups, Yiddish and Mandarin classes, challah making, mahjong games, and Hebrew and Chinese scribal art.
