Damien Echols in conversation with Johnny Depp
The case of the West Memphis Three garnered nationwide attention in 1993 as then-teenagers Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin and Jessie Misskelley Jr. were arrested for the murders of three 8-year-old boys in Arkansas. After being convicted in flawed trials, thousands of supporters rallied to the trio's defense. In August 2011, all three men were released. Friday, Damien Echols, who was deemed the "ringleader" of the WM3 at the time, will share his story with Johnny Depp as he talks about his new book, "Life After Death," detailing his time in prison and on Death Row. Get 'Piefaced' at Pie Face
Prepare to get "Piefaced" Friday! Stop by Pie Face's Murray Hill location late Friday night (really early Saturday morning, if you want to get technical) as Australia's favorite meat pie shop celebrates the opening of its second U.S. location. The pie shop will be handing out FREE savory pies - YUM! - from 1:30 to 3:30 a.m. The perfect treat after a night of partying and a great way to kick off the weekend, in our humble opinion. (Friday night, 1:30-3:30 a.m., FREE, Pie Face, 507A Third Ave., piefacenyc.com)
