Christian Bale and his wife spent two hours touring the Aurora Medical Center in Colorado Tuesday, meeting many of the victims of Friday's shooting, the Denver Post reported.
Bale had asked the hospital to keep his visit a secret, however several victims and hospital staff began spreading the word on social media.
Carey Rottman, who was shot in the leg, posted pictures on his Facebook page of a smiling Bale visiting his hospital room.
Bale's representatives did not return messages for comment about his surprise visit.
He and his fellow "Dark Knight Rises" cast have expressed sympathies for the shooting victims.
Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures made undisclosed donations to GivingFirst.Org, according to Community First Foundation, which is overseeing the donations. The group had collected about $2 million in donations as of Tuesday night.
