The DOT Monday declining to confirm a report that the long-awaited bike share program will launch Memorial Day, only stating that it will debut this month.

An agency spokesman said the city is "preparing for a May launch" and would not confirm the holiday weekend start date, which was reported Sunday in Crain's New York Business, citing Bloomberg administration sources.

A spokewoman for the Citi Bike program referred requests for comments to the DOT.

The DOT has been installing racks emblazoned with sponsor Citigroup's logo for the blue bicycles. Annual memberships are in demand, with the first 5,000 sold a day after they were made available April 15.
