The city has received three proposals for the possible rezoning of the area around Grand Central Terminal, giving it a dramatic redesign that could include a moving halo high above the street.
The plans were unveiled at the Municipal Art Society's Summit for New York City, and they came from three respected firms. Here is what they're proposing:
Skimore, Owings and Merrill: A sky-high panoramic ring suspended between two towers that would move up and down.
Foster + Partners: Numerous smaller changes, including a pedestrian plaza and easing access to the terminal.
WXY architecture and urban design: A High Line-esque walkway with a see-through bottom and seasonal foliage.
