Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Schools Chancellor Dennis Walcott announced the latest statistics for the city's graduation rate Monday and found that more students are getting their high school diploma.

The four-year graduation rate for students in 2012 was 64.7%, which is more than 18% higher than the 46.5% rate in 2005. Bloomberg credited the Department of Education's enhanced academic plan and tougher graduation requirements for the improvement.

"Fewer students are dropping out and more are taking the time to earn their diplomas," he said in a statement.
