City releases updated hurricane evacuation map
The city updated its hurricane plan Tuesday that includes a bigger evacuation map and a new way to warn New Yorkers.
The Office of Emergency Management ditched its letter zone system with a number system that includes an additional 600,000 residents than the previous map in new locations such as southern Queens and Brooklyn.
The map is available for download at the nyc.gov and there is also a link to the Hurricane Evacuation Zone Finder.
The app now uses GPS to help New Yorkers determine what is their zone and get information about the closest shelter.
