The city is looking south of the border to help boost its tourism revenue.
NYC & Company, the city's tourism department, announced the opening a promotional office in Mexico, which is the city's 10th largest international market.
George Fertitt, the CEO NYC & Co., said the office would capitalize on the growing number Mexican tourists who take in the sites of the Big Apple.
"The result will be increased visitation from Mexico, more jobs for our local tourism industry and hundreds of millions of dollars in economic impact," he said during a news conference in Mexico City's financial district Tuesday.
The Mexican office will provide marketing and support for New York tourism and work with the country's media to entice residents to travel here.
Close to 400,000 Mexicans are expected to visit the city this year, compared to the 192,000 that came to Gotham in 2005.
