Parents looking to get their kids to class by first bell better think twice before breaking the speed limit.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced Monday that the city will enforce the state's new program installing speed cameras near 20 school locations that are prone to accidents.

The unspecified locations for the five-year pilot will be determined by factors such as crash and injury data, rates of speed and road geometry.

Although traffic deaths have gone down 30% since Bloomberg took office, there were still 81 fatal wrecks last year.

The mayor said many of those deaths could have been prevented if the driver had traveled at less than 30 mph.
