Bill Clinton and a who's who of leaders gathered at Roosevelt Island Wednesday to dedicate a green space that has been a long time coming.

Four Freedoms Park will serve as a memorial to President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, the island's namesake.

The park, which has been in the works since 1973, was named after Roosevelt's speech where he gave a vision where he promoted freedoms of speech, religion, want and freedom from fear.

Clinton, who was joined by Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Gov. Andrew Cuomo for the ceremony, said the four-term president's idea still resonates.

"People still come here from all over the world, seeking the four freedoms," he said.
