Cold prompts Amtrak to suspend some service
Frigid weather has caused Amtrak to suspend service between New York City and Albany Monday, officials said.
Officials said while Empire Service was suspended at 10:30 a.m., long-distance service west of Albany will operate normally despite the cold.
"The subzero temperatures have caused some signals, switches and equipment to freeze, and as a precautionary measure, Amtrak has temporarily suspended service between New York City and Albany," Amtrak said in a prepared statement released Monday.
Alternate bus transportation is being provided.
While Empire Service is suspended, Amtrak said the following long-distance trains are scheduled to operate on a normal schedule: The Adirondack (New York to Montreal); Ethan Allen Express (New York to Rutland, Vt.); Lake Shore Limited (New York to Chicago); and Maple Leaf service (New York to Toronto).
Additional updates will be issued throughout the day.
Passengers can call 800-USA-RAIL or visit Amtrak.com for train status updates.
