Colder than normal temperatures expected in New York City this week

Spoiled by warm temperatures most of the winter, New Yorkers are dealing with the season's first cold snap, with a small snowstorm expected by week's end. Temperatures will dip as low as the teens at night throughout the week and during the day, averages will be in the mid-20s.

The average temperature for this week in January is in the mid-30s, so the city will be about 10 degrees colder than average, according to certified consulting meteorologist George Wright.

Friday's storm will start around noon and last until Saturday morning, possibly sprinkling two to six inches in and around the city.

By Sunday, the storm will clear out and the temperatures will slightly warm up.
