New York City officials say four construction workers were hurt at a building being demolished near Grand Central Terminal when a crumbling interior wall fell and hit them.

A fire department spokesman says the men were all taken to Bellevue Hospital Center after the accident occurred about 10 a.m. Tuesday; they were in stable condition.

Richard Wilde, the citywide coordinator for the Office of Emergency Management, says the Art Deco building on Madison Avenue is being gutted in preparation for total demolition. The building is a block west of the terminal. Wilde says the interior wall that fell was on the mezzanine level.

The building's owner, SL Green Realty Corp., says there was a licensed site safety manager at the building. The cause of the collapse is under investigation.
