Construction on One World Trade Center's spire set to start Wednesday

The first section of One World Trade Center's spire is set to be erected Wedndesday after arriving in the city Tuesday, the Port Authority said.
Nine of the spire's 18 pieces arrived by barge Tuesday from New Jersey's Port Newark, each weighing some 70 tons. Crews reportedly were pouring concrete yesterday in prep for the first step toward building the 408-foot spiral, which is expected to be finished sometime in the spring.
When the building is completed, the 104-story tower will stand 1776 feet high, making it the tallest skyscraper in the Western Hemisphere. It is expected to open in 2014.
