Cops arrest suspect in Central Park rape case
Cops say they arrested the man wanted for allegedly raping a woman in Central Park early Sunday morning.
Officers found Omar Hoist, 32, at Metropolitan Hospital Tuesday night and charged the homeless man with rape, strangulation and assault. A spokeswoman for the Manhattan DA's office said they were awaiting his arraignment.
The NYPD said Hoist approached a woman near 88th Street and Fifth Avenue around 3 a.m. Sunday and they began talking. Eventually they allegedly entered the park at 100th Street and they made their way to a bench.
Police say he then took her to a grassy area and raped her. The victim fled to a hospital while Hoist allegedly fled the scene.
