Cops are talking to at least two people in connection with a gunfight this weekend that left a 4-year-old boy dead in a Bronx playground, officials said Tuesday.
Police Commissioner Ray Kelly told reporters Tuesday that a teen who acknowledged he fired a gun during the fatal shootout was being questioned, but told cops he was defending himself.
"We are speaking to a 17-year-old young man who admits to being at the scene of the shooting, who admits to shooting rounds at that location," Kelly said, adding, "There will be charges."
An NYPD spokeswoman confirmed that police were questioning two people last night, but said they had not made any arrests as of press time.
The gun battle erupted on Sunday night at a playground at the Forest Houses, according to police. At least three people were struck by bullets, and cops suspect at least three different guns were used.
Four-year-old Lloyd Morgan was fatally shot in the head, and a 21-year-old man and 27-year-old man were in stable condition after being hit in the abdomen and arm, respectively, police said.
Cops are still trying to determine which gun fired the bullet that killed Morgan.
"It is obviously a very sad situation where you have a 17-year-old admitting to the fact that he fired shots where a four-year-old was killed," Kelly said.
