Cops recover 20 pounds of heroin in bust
A Yonkers man was arrested Saturday night with close to 20 pounds of heroin found in the trunk of a car he was driving, the NYPD said.
Joancis Delacruz-Arias, 26, was picked up in Inwood at West 207th Street and Sherman Avenue around 8:20 p.m. after police found a brown duffel bag filled with 25,000 glassines of heroin that had a street value of about $750,000, according to police.
The bust was made when two plainclothes officers on patrol saw a different man toss the bag in the trunk of a silver Nissan Altima with Delacruz-Arias behind the wheel.
When two plainclothes officers with their shields showing approached the car, the unidentified man fled, the NYPD said. Officers later searched the trunk, finding the sack of heroin, according to the NYPD. Police are still looking for the man who fled.
Delacruz-Arias was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance.
