Police in Queens continued Sunday searching for the driver they say caused a deadly wrong-way crash on the Long Island Expressway service road that killed a livery cab passenger and injured two others.

The collision happened on the service road near 58th Road in Maspeth shortly before 6:42 a.m. Saturday, police said.

A black Lincoln livery cab was headed east on the service road when it was hit head-on by a 2002 Chrysler going the wrong way, police said.

The crash killed the Lincoln's passenger -- George Gibbons, 37, of Maspeth -- and injured the driver, 59, whom police did not identify.

The Chrysler's driver fled, police said, leaving behind his injured passenger, Andre McKanney, 44, of 514 Jamaica Ave., Cypress Hills, Queens.

Emergency responders took McKanney, the livery driver and Gibbons to Elmhurst General Hospital, where Gibbons was pronounced dead on arrival. The driver and McKanney were listed in stable condition Saturday, according to police.

McKanney was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana, police said.

Gibbons' family could not be reached for comment Sunday evening.
