Cops search for suspect in L train fight that left 1 man dead

Cops continued to search Sunday for a man who allegedly started a fight with a 20-year-old straphanger who was killed by a train Friday after they fell onto the tracks.

Joshua Basin, 20, and the unidentified suspect got into an argument while riding the L train on Friday night that turned physical once they got off at Bedford Avenue, police said.

The man picked a fight with Basin, of Howard Beach, and both ended up on the tracks as a Manhattan-bound train pulled into the station, according to police. While the unidentified man was able to pull himself onto the platform, Basin was hit, officials said. He was pronounced dead when EMS workers got him to Bellevue Hospital.

“I need justice,” Basin’s mother, Zena, told the Daily News over the weekend. “Whoever did this is a coward... I need to find out why he did that to my son.”

Police released a sketch of the suspect, whom they described as thin, with dirty blond hair and “pock marks” on the right side of his face. They think he is in his 30s.

Basin is at least the 17th person to be killed by a subway so far this year according to police statistics, which is a slight increase over last year. The total number of riders struck has remained about the same, since more accidents this year have resulted in fatal injuries.
