The Queens woman accused of dumping her newborn in the trash at the hospital where she sought prenatal care told police that she was afraid her mother would find out about the baby, officials said yesterday.

Dawa Lama, 23, faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted on assault and other charges.

“The tiny victim … was allegedly betrayed by the one person who was supposed to care for her,” said Queens District Attorney Richard Brown.

Lama’s attorney, Michael Dreishpoon, declined to comment.
