NYPD: MTA worker arrested after fatally shooting off-duty correction officer in Queens

Police have arrested a man they say shot and killed an off-duty correction officer on Friday in Richmond Hill, Queens, the NYPD said.

Officers responding to a 911 call at 1:46 a.m. found Jonathan Narain, 27, unconscious in a red 2013 Honda Accord at 103rd Avenue and 120th Street, a department spokesman said. 

Police said a motorcyclist wearing dark clothes, later identified by police as 30-year-old Gifford Hunter, had an argument with Narain when they both came to a stop at the intersection, the spokesman said.

The motorcyclist shot Narain once in the head before taking off, police said.

Narain was taken to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, the spokesman said.

Hunter, who is a bus maintenance worker for the MTA, was arrested and charged with murder in the second degree, criminal possession of a weapon and criminal use of a firearm, police said.

The investigation is ongoing.
