Council to declare June Gun Violence Awareness month
The City Council is set to take a stand against gun violence Wednesday by issuing a resolution that will make June Gun Violence Awareness Month in the city.
The resolution comes after the state Assembly passed a similar measure Monday.
City Council Speaker Christine Quinn said the measure will help inform New Yorkers about the dangers of gun violence and spur action against illegal gun activity.
"Gun Violence Awareness Month will increase year round efforts to protect all New Yorkers and will strengthen the council's commitment to permanently reduce gun violence in our City," she said in a statement.
