New Yorkers may not be taking "the Koch" between Queens and Manhattan any time soon.

Queens Councilman Peter Vallone said yesterday that he would vote against renaming the Queensboro Bridge after the former mayor, arguing that its not “appropriate” for the borough’s namesake span.

“Mayor Ed Koch is truly a great man and deserving of an honor like this, but renaming a landmark so closely linked to our borough’s culture and history is not appropriate,” Vallone said in a statement. “The city would not rename the Brooklyn Bridge and the Queensboro Bridge should be treated equally.”

Instead, the mayor’s mansion could be renamed the Gracie-Koch Mansion, Vallone suggested.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg had suggested the name change last December in celebration of Koch’s 86th birthday and his office yesterday suggested that hizzoner had not changed his stance.

“The proposal was and remains the Ed Koch Queensboro Bridge,” said mayoral spokesman Marc LaVorgna.

Koch could not be reached for comment.

The city council will have a committee hearing on the proposal Friday, but no date has been set yet for a vote.
