Danny Woodhead returns as unexpected threat to New York Jets

The Jets opted to keep wide receiver David Clowney and bid farewell to running back Danny Woodhead in September. As they enter December, the AFC Division co-leaders might be lamenting that decision.
Woodhead will be in the opposing backfield Monday night in Foxborough, Mass., during the Jets’ (9-2) highly anticipated showdown for conference supremacy against the rival Patriots (9-2).
Signed by New England prior to the Jets’ 28-14 home win over the Patriots in Week 2, Woodhead has filled in admirably for injured running back Kevin Faulk.
The 5-foot-8 Chadron State product has rushed for 344 yards and three touchdowns while catching 24 passes for 230 yards and a score in nine games with the Pats. He also inked a two-year contract extension last week.
The Jets have certainly taken notice of the 26-year-old dynamo.
“[Woodhead’s] perfect for what they do,” Jets head coach Rex Ryan said at his weekly press conference. “Kevin Faulk had that role for years and was so successful. I love the fact that he’s having success. I just wish him no success on Monday.”
