David Paterson talks Mets and his years as guv on WFAN

With just four weeks left in his term, Gov. David Paterson spent five hours on WFAN with Mike Francesa today, discussing everything from his time in his office, being mocked on “Saturday Night Live,” and his love of the Mets.

In vivid detail, Paterson reminisced about watching the awful 1962 Mets at the Polo Grounds with his dad, longtime New York political leader, Basil Paterson.

“The Mets won 41 games and lost 120 – and this prepared me for political career, just losing all the time,” joked Paterson, who got the win total wrong (it’s actually 40, as most frustrated Mets fans can tell you.)

Paterson, who called his tenure “painful at times,” has dealt with miserable approval ratings since he taking over for the disgraced Eliot Spitzer, but blamed the lampooning on “Saturday Night Live” for costing him support.
Throughout the years, Paterson, 56, has called into WFAN to banter with the station’s hosts about sports.

It’s been rumored that he’s considering a hosting gig when his term ends on Jan. 1.
