The president may have spoiled Mitt Romney's surprise running mate announcement.
President Barack Obama allegedly told a top fundraiser that his GOP presidential rival would be choosing CIA director David Petraeus as his vice presidential candidate, the Drudge Report reported Tuesday.
Romney's campaign declined to comment about the story.
The GOP candidate met with Petraeus, who commanded the forces in Iraq and Afghanistan, in New Hampshire recently, according to Drudge.
White House press secretary Jay Carney vehemently denied the reported conversation took place, telling reporters to "be mindful of your sources."
