New York City streets will be tidier under an initiative announced Wednesday by Mayor Bill de Blasio.
The $6.7 million CleaNYC program expands graffiti removal and sidewalk power-washing services in high-traffic commercial corridors and bumps up the city Department of Sanitation’s Sunday and holiday litter basket collection by 40 percent.
“Part of what we need to do everyday is show people a city that is getting safer, cleaner, more orderly,” de Blasio said at a morning news conference at a SoHo sanitation garage.
The CleaNYC initiative also will increase highway shoulder and ramp cleanup. It will begin in April and cost $4.2 million in expense funds and $2.5 million in capital funds in the upcoming fiscal year.
