Delta flight makes emergency landing at Kennedy

A Delta Air Lines flight bound for Florida suffered an engine-related problem shortly after takeoff from LaGuardia Airport on Friday, but diverted to Kennedy Airport where it landed safely, officials said.

The Federal Aviation Administration identified the aircraft as a McDonnell Douglas MD-88, a twin-engine jet, that took off about 8:15 a.m., headed for Palm Beach International Airport.

Officials said the captain of Flight 2395 declared an emergency not long after takeoff due to an unspecified engine-related problem. The crew then elected to divert to Kennedy.

It was not clear how many passengers and crew were aboard the jet, which the FAA said landed safely at 8:31 a.m.

Available flight information indicated that the flight continued to Palm Beach, leaving Kennedy at 11:06 a.m. It was unclear whether the same airplane was used.
