Derek Jeter talks climate change at DAVOS

Yankees captain Derek Jeter stepped up to the plate for fighting climate change this week at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

Normally Jeter, one of the most recognizable players in sports, keeps mum when it comes to politics.

But experiencing superstorm Sandy in New York, the 38-year-old shortstop decided to speak out on the climate change issue.

"It's just something that's gotten so much attention," Jeter said to The Columbus Dispatch earlier this week.

"Regardless of how you feel about it, it's something that needs to be addressed, because we're seeing more and more natural disasters each year, it seems like. Something has to be causing it."

Jeter's spokeswoman declined to comment about the shortstop's trip.

Jeter attended the Switzerland forum as a guest of PepsiCo.

PepsiCo owns Gatorade, a brand the Yankees player has endorsed. He told The Dispatch that attending the forum was "an honor.
