Designer's boyfriend charged in Soho House death

The boyfriend of the swimsuit designer found dead at the posh Soho House hotel last month has been indicted on murder charges, according to published reports.

Nicholas Brooks, 24, is expected to be arraigned today on second-degree murder in the Dec. 9 death of Sylvie Cachay, 33. He faces 25 years to life in prison.

The charges against Brooks were increased after officials last week ruled Cachay’s death a homicide. He was originally charged with attempted murder and strangulation, and has been in jail since he was arrested the day after Cachay’s body was found.

Brooks, son of “You Light Up My Life” composer and alleged serial rapist Joseph Brooks, has denied killing Cachay, saying she was fine the last time he saw her.

His attorney, Jeffrey Hoffman, declined to comment, but has previously said Brooks is innocent.

Police found Cachay dead and partially submerged in a tub at the hotel. She had reportedly recently ended her relationship with Brooks.

“It’s incredible,” Cachay’s mother, Sylvia, told the New York Post after the death. “She was an artist. She was a painter. Everything was perfect.”

The elder Brooks, 72, was charged last year with 11 counts of sexual assault.
